Becoming a surrogate is an incredible, life-changing decision—one that comes with many questions! In this blog, we’ll address the most common logistical and lifestyle questions from women considering surrogacy. Our goal is to provide clear, honest, and supportive answers to the logistics and lifestyle questions surrogates have to help you feel fully prepared before taking the first step on this journey!
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like to be a surrogate, read on—we’re here to help every step of the way!

1. Can I choose the intended parents?
Yes! You absolutely get to meet and approve the intended parent(s) before moving forward. At Little Miracles Surrogacy, we match for compatibility, so if either the intended parents or surrogate prefer to work with certain types of people, we make sure to match based on those preferences.
2. Can I be a surrogate for a family member or friend?
Yes! This is sometimes called altruistic surrogacy if the surrogate does not want compensation. Intended parents sometimes choose to pursue these journeys independently or with agency guidance as opposed to agency lead. While some steps are legally necessary, intended parents are usually able to save on certain expenses when they already know and trust the surrogate.
3. Will I have to travel for medical appointments?
You may need to travel for initial fertility treatments depending on the location of the intended parents and their embryos and clinic. After IVF, prenatal care usually takes place locally, with the surrogate's OB/GYN. Travel expenses are covered by the intended parents.
4. Can I still work while being a surrogate?
Yes! As long as your pregnancy is healthy and your job doesn’t pose risks, you can continue working.
5. What happens after delivery?
After birth, the baby goes to the intended parents immediately, and you recover. Often the intended parents and surrogate stay over night at the hospital in separate rooms. Some surrogates maintain contact after birth, while others do not. This is agreed upon before the birth.
